Hot & Heavy
This spacious zippered bag comes in two sizes and will hold a variety of items or your favorite mini or regular-sized household iron. Each features a zippered pocket on the front and a mesh divider and fabric slip pocket inside. Rings attached to the handle may be used to attach a separate strap. An easy-to-make Cord Wrap handily contains cords and can be made with leftover fabrics and interfacing from the project.
This bag is great for an advanced beginner who wants to improve their bag making skills. You will learn two techniques for sewing zippers, three pockets' techniques, sewing with mesh and fold over elastic, sewing with foam interfacing, attach strapping and basic hardware installation and attaching bias binding in this class
I made this bag in the small size as I intend to use it to transport my small travel iron to and from class. You could make the large size bag in class if you prefer. Be sure to check the supplies on the pattern back for the appropriate items you need for the large bag.
I also used the clear acrylic base stabilizer and covered it with hot and cold barrier fleece and decorative fabric. This makes a firm base to your bag and protects the acrylic base from melting if your iron is hot when you pack it away.
If you find some strapping that coordinates nicely with your fabric you do not need to cover it with fabric. If you have the lighter, more flexible strapping in a color not to your liking you can cover it with fabric instead.
