About Our Long Arm Quilting Machine Rentals
Welcome to Sandy’s Fabrics & Machines- Hot Stash Longarm Studio!
Do you have quilt tops stacking up? Are you tired of wrestling big quilts on your domestic machine? Good news! Sandy’s Fabrics & Machines now offers Longarm Rentals. Our Hot Stash Longarm Studio has 3 premium Bernina longarm quilting machines set up and ready for you to quilt on!
Upon completion of one of our Longarm Certification courses, and with approval from instructor, you may rent time on our longarm quilting machines.
We offer free motion rental and automated quilting rental.
We recommend a small lap or wall size quilt for your first rental after certification. This helps you gauge your quilting time and comfort level before you rent for a larger quilt.

Some questions and answers:
What do I need to do to be ready for Longarm Rental?
-
Completed quilt top, squared and freshly pressed
-
Batting that is 4-5” larger on all sides than your quilt top; the less wrinkled the better (Batting is available in store for purchase)
-
Backing fabric that is 4-5” larger than your quilt top on all sides; freshly pressed. If there is a seam, horizontal is ideal
What if I do not finish my quilt in my rental session?
If you run out of time during your session and do not finish your quilt, you can schedule another time to finish your quilt based on open session times. In some cases, you may be able to leave your quilt and return the next day, it just depends on availability of the machine.
Proper planning ahead of time will help ensure you get your quilt finished during your rental session. Have an idea of what designs you plan on quilting on your project. Practice on paper or dry erase boards. Take photos of your quilt and draw over the top of them what your plan may be. You can significantly speed up your quilting time with a little bit of prior planning.
What if I’m still a little bit uncomfortable with using the machine on my own after I take my certification?
This is completely normal! If you are still a bit unsure of being left alone with a machine, you can request a Mentor- a person that will be there to answer questions and help guide you on use of the machine during your project. They will not load your quilt or help you design your quilting layouts. Mentors are $20 per hour.
How long is my certification good for?
Certifications are valid as long as you are renting on a regular basis (at least once every couple of months). If it has been more than 6 months since you rented a machine, you will be required to pay for a Mentor for your full rental session. Mentors are $20 per hour.
If it has been more than 1 year since your last rental, you will need to retake the full certification course.
